Also, did anyone get outside last night? I did. I took a walk around my entire neighborhood without sweating. Sure, the sun had already dropped behind the mountains, and while it wasn’t quite dusk, it wasn’t quite daylight either. But still, there was light and I was outside moving around, which was a nice change.

I went outside on Saturday too, to the Festival of Arts and car show in Downtown Summerlin. At said car show, I learned that there are a lot of Model As in the Valley. There’s even a Model A Car Club. I was also told a good place to get your hands on a Model A is eBay… oddly enough. So, I just took a look and there are, in fact, plenty of model As coming up on eBay, if anyone’s in the market.

It’s Wine Tasting Tuesday at JING, which I’ve never been to, but have recently learned consists of wine + small plate pairings at very reasonable prices, which sounds just up my alley. The wine options change weekly, so, you know, if you like wine, maybe it’s up your alley too. Rumor has it this is an early evening only thing, starting with Happy Hour at 4 and only going until 8 pm.

One of the reasons we associate crows so closely with death is because of their incredible intelligence. These sharp, black-feathered birds are more than just opportunistic scavengers. They are master pattern recognizers. They are so smart, in fact, they've been known to follow armies marching into battle, because they know what is likely to come next.

Crows may not be picky when it comes to their diets, but they are very strategic when it comes to finding food. As scavengers, these birds are well-known to take from battlefields. But they don’t always wait for a battle to happen to start tracking their food.

During war times when many battles are being waged, crows quickly figure out that large groups of armed humans moving in the same direction means a fight is likely to break out, and that, afterward, that battle will likely leave dead bodies in its wake.

This terrible association with war and death is part of why crows have been tied so closely to the grim and the macabre for centuries. It's not just folklore or superstition. The presence of crows (and ravens) on battlefields made them literal harbingers of death.
