Weird Happy Hours, Restaurant Week Preview + More!

The LEGO Store is open!

TODAY’S WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH

Happy Monday Afternoon, Neighbor!

It’s Las Vegas Restaurant Week (though, technically, it’s closer to two weeks), which means lots of prix-fixe menus at restaurants for you to sample and try, including several right here in Summerlin. More importantly, a portion of the sales of these special menus go to Three Square Food Bank. So, if you normally stick to the same rotation of restaurants, this may be just the time to try somewhere new for a good cause.

Also, the Lego Store in Downtown Summerlin opened on Friday, so maybe there’s hope for the Michaels. Today through Sunday, the store is giving away an I ❤️ LEGO Store tote with any purchase.

In today’s Summerlin City Wind Down:

TODAY’S (SOMEWHAT WEIRD) HAPPY HOURS 😎

Last Monday was Nothing to Fear Day, and, in honor of that, we highlighted some Happy Hours with weird-ish things on their menus.

Today, we’re carrying on with that theme and it’s all about things made for dipping.

First up, at Beer Zombies, they cut right to the chase with a starter called “Dippin Things.” It’s really nothing unusual (although, serving salt ‘n vinegar chips with dip isn’t a choice I would personally make), but until you know, it could literally be anything. I mean, the place is called Beer Zombies 🧟 and they’re serving up Dippin Things? Oh, the possibilities.

In other weird dipping, we’re taking a detour to Fleming’s Steakhouse, where they always offer bread, even at Happy Hour, which is nice (as is the bread), but that soft, delicious bread comes out with two unusual dipping options. The last couple of times it was champagne brie butter and truffled… something, both of which are certainly unique and fancy, but I’m not sure are good?

Anyway, it’s all subjective, and if you like to dip at Happy Hour, you can do it at either of these places.

FEATURED (DIPPY) HAPPY HOURS

OTHER (DIP-FRIENDLY) HAPPY HOURS TONIGHT

Prefer a less uncertain dipping experience? If you like hummus, these three places serve up a mean, hummus-inclusive plate -

None of these sound appealing? Check out our full list of Monday Happy Hours in Summerlin (we’re still adding to it).

Did You Know? 🤔

We’re capable of producing venom.

In fact, all mammals are.

According to researchers, humans (and other mammals) have all the genetic tools required to become venomous. While we don't currently ooze toxins like snakes and spiders, our saliva contains kallikreins, proteins that are a key component in venom systems. These proteins can digest other proteins and, with a few evolutionary tweaks, theoretically transform our spit into a deadly weapon.

So, while it might sound like a Sci-Fi plot, our venom-producing capabilities are legit.

This may be a good thing to remember the next time your dentist is putting you through it and you’re fantasizing your payback.

TODAY’S  RESTAURANT SPECIALS + RESTAURANT WEEK PREVIEW

When it comes to restaurant specials today, and for the next two weeks, it’s all about Las Vegas Restaurant Week. Multiple Summerlin restaurants are participating with prix-fixe menus, and we’re gonna tell you which Summerlin eateries are getting in on the action, starting with Downtown Summerlin.

These are the DTS restaurants participating (links are to their Restaurant Week menus):

Just need a good, decently-priced drink? Aces and Ales just launched their summer drink specials with Pizza Port Beer and Santo Single-Liquor Drinks or Shots for $6.

Got a vacation coming up? Don’t forget travel insurance! It’s cheap and the peace of mind you need. Plus, travel is already stressful enough!

LOCAL EVENTS TO CHECK OUT

As tends to be the way on Mondays, there’s not a whole lot of event activity in the area tonight (it might be a good night to do a Restaurant Week experience), but there are a few things coming up Beyond Summerlin on Saturday that may take some planning.

First up, Saturday is Free Adventure Day when entrance fees are waved at all Nevada State Parks. It’s also Nevada Free Fishing Day, which means you can fish without a license. So, if your fishing pole and tackle are buried in the back of your closet, you may want to start digging now.

Saturday also kicks off Downtown Rocks at Fremont Street, and they are kicking off big with Soul Asylum (followed by Hoobastank). While the concert is free and open-access, if you’ve listened to “Runaway Train” on repeat as many times as I have, you may want to do your strategic planning now. And, you know, mentally prepare yourself for navigating Fremont Street on a Saturday night.

  • Freestyle Afternoon
