🏈 Weekend Mode: Super Bowl Plans, WrestleMania, New Restaurant, Bubba Knight & More!
finally, a warm weekend!
Happy Friday Afternoon, Neighbor!
Could there be a new Costco on the way? Yes. The answer is yes. It’s only in the planning stages right now, but “a development agreement will appear before the Clark County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, Feb. 5, for a Costco at the corner of Buffalo Drive and Badura Avenue.” So, pretty southerly, but maybe it’ll take some of the strain off the Costco at Canyon Pointe? And anyone who’s shopped there knows how nice that would be!

The restaurants really want y’all to start planning for two things: the Big Game and Valentine’s Day. We’ll do a deep dive into Valentine’s Day next week, but, as for the Big Game, most places will let you in the door for free (though, not all of ‘em), but they do have some specials.
Take The Ridge. They’re having a Big Game Party with a Game Day Package, which basically consists of booze, booze, and more booze, plus a raffle ticket. Or you can upgrade to premium booze, booze, and more booze and five raffle tickets. There are also some food specials, but whether or not you’ll want to sop up some of that drink will probably depend on whether your team is winnin’ or losin’. Anyway, to get in at The Ridge for the Super Bowl, you’ll need to give them a call at (725) 225-1772. Yes, an actual verbal phone call, which, let’s be real, is so retro, it’s almost cool.
|
Aces and Ales is another place that wants you to call in your Big Game Day interests. That’s (702) 638-2337 for the Tenaya location. No details on their food and drink specials, but it’s safe to say there’ll be beer involved.
|
But Aces and Ales has even more exciting news to share. Their Evolve Brewing Project popped up fast and soft-opened on January 25th. It’s right across Sunset from IKEA. Which is a pretty fitting location. After walking the full route of IKEA, who doesn’t need a relaxing drink?

Did You Know? 🐬🐡
Dolphins get high off of pufferfish.
Well… maybe.

Think humans are the only species that enjoy a little substance-infused kick? Probably not. Surely, you know about cats.
But maybe you don’t know about dolphins, who may just be the recreational users of the sea.
Dolphins have been observed carefully mouthing pufferfish, causing the fish to release small amounts of tetrodotoxin - a powerful neurotoxin that, in large doses, is deadly. But in small doses? It may just induce a trance-like state, or at least a state of Zen. What do dolphins do after they take in a little tetrodotoxin? Well, they float around, staring at their own reflections like they’ve just discovered the meaning of life.
Or so they’ve been observed.
But are these dolphins actually getting high? Scientists aren’t entirely sure. Some argue the dolphins are deliberately extracting just enough toxin to experience a mild buzz, while others believe they’re just playing with their food in that weirdly intelligent-yet-chaotic way dolphins do. Dolphins do love messing with other sea creatures just for fun (ask any poor octopus they’ve flung around), so it could all just be part of their endless pursuit of entertainment that comes with the side effect of taking them on a temporary trip. Either way, dolphins have been known to pass a pufferfish around like it’s an oceanic party favor, taking turns and handling it just right.
Whether it’s intentional or just another weird dolphin habit, one thing’s for sure: if you see a dolphin gazing up at you through the ocean’s surface, you’re not having a moment and it’s not about to eat your face. It’s just high on pufferfish, and admiring its own reflection.

AROUND THE VALLEY 🍔🌡️🤼♀️
Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -
Don’t Shoot the Messenger 🍔🌡️
Need an alternative to In-N-Out and FatBurger? Whataburger is opening a third location in the Valley. It’s gonna be all the way on the other side of town, in Henderson, but, you know… progress?
Ready for the 70s? 🌡️
Have you seen the weather forecast? It’s going to be right warm at the beginning of the week, like shorts-weather warm. Say Hello, 70 degrees!
Need a SmackDown? 🤼♀️
Been waiting for the WrestleMania 41 schedule to drop? Well, it has. Your favorite wrestlers will be battling it out in Las Vegas April 18-21. T-Mobile Arena will host three events: Friday Night SmackDown on April 18th, NXT Stand & Deliver on Saturday, April 19th, and Monday Night Raw on April 21st.
Tickets go on sale February 14th, because what says love like a good, old-fashioned chokeslam?
But, hold up, that’s not all.
There’s gonna be a corresponding con… like a convention, not a fraudster. WWE World will take place Thursday, April 17-Monday, April 21 at the Las Vegas Convention Center with exclusive merch and wrestler meet-and-greets. That’s right, fans, you may just be able to get served up a body slam of your own.

EVENTS & LIVE MUSIC 🎭📚🥬🎵
Looking for a little theater at a budget price? The teens at Faith Conservatory of the Fine Arts are putting on Hadestown. Just be warned if you’re a first-timer, you will have “Wait for Me” or “Why We Build the Wall” stuck in your heads for days… or months.
Or, if you’d rather listen at the foot of an elder, Bubba Knight (that’s Gladys’s brother and a Pip, y’all), is playing tonight at the West Charleston Library.
Then, tomorrow, things get weirdly specific. If you’re a pickleballer and a country line dancer and you’ve been dreaming of an event geared right toward you, you can meet up with fellow “Pickleballers That Country Line Dance” at Stoney’s North Forty (Santa Fe Station).
There’s also a book sale at the Centennial Hills Library, for those looking to expand your collections. (Get there right when it starts before the resellers clean them out 😡)
And Black History Month stars on Saturday, so there’s lots of cool stuff coming up at the libraries and beyond.
