đŸč Weekend Mode: New Happy Hours & Lots of Events!

there's a singles meetup tonight!

TODAY’S WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH

Happy Friday Afternoon, Neighbor!

Well, the (very warm) weekend is finally here. đŸŒĄïž I hope everyone’s groove thing is in working order.

In response to the incredibly intense, and seemingly non-stop, heat, Republic Services have shifted their operations to an hour earlier in the day. Starting on Monday, trash collection will begin one hour earlier than normal, so make sure you get those trash cans by the curb in time and, if you’re a late-riser, be prepared to be woken up at an even groggier time of morning.

In today’s Summerlin City Wind Down:

  • Today's Happy Hours & Eats đŸč

  • Did You Know? đŸ˜±

  • Around the Valley ⚟

  • Events & Live Music đŸŽ”

  • Beyond Summerlin 🚗

Let's get to it. See you on the other side.

But first up, a quick note from our sponsor. Mmmm

TODAY’S HAPPY HOURS & EATS đŸč

If you’re looking for something marginally different tonight, there are a couple of new things on the Summerlin Happy Hour scene. La Neta Cocina now has a late-night Happy Hour (Fridays & Saturdays only) to go along with their afternoon Happy Hour, and Hussong’s (allegedly) has a new Happy Hour menu with all items $4, $6 or $8.

So, I guess what I’m saying is it’s a good night to get your chips and salsa on.

  • La Neta Cocina

  • Downtown Summerlin

  • 3-6 pm / 9 pm-Close

  • Hussong’s Cantina

  • Boca Park

  • 3-6 pm

Craving something different? Check out our full list of Friday Happy Hours.

Psst. It’s also National Daiquiri Day, which some sympathetic bartenders might consider a well cocktail if you ask really nicely.

Did You Know? đŸ˜±

No one is truly fearless.

All humans share the same two fears - a fear of falling and a fear of loud noises.

And we have those fears from the instant we are born.

While we all know people who seem to have no fear - tree climbers, black diamond skiers, people who eat gas station sushi - rest assured, even these daredevils have fears lurking deep down. That’s because two fears, the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises, are hardwired into us from birth. These are the most primal fears in our human survival kits, courtesy of human evolution.

But just how do researchers know these fears are present, even in the tiniest of babies? Well, in one famous experiment from the 1960s psychologists conducted the "visual cliff" experiment, during which they placed infants on a glass-covered table that appeared to have a drop-off. Despite being a solid surface and completely safe, babies hesitated to crawl over the "cliff," indicating an innate recognition of the danger and an inherent fear of falling.

Loud noises make even the newest of newborns jump. In fact, a lack of reaction to startling noises is how most infants are discovered to be deaf, and that’s because response to loud noises is closely linked to our survival instincts.

While you might think some of your other fears - a fear of spiders, water, or the dark - are inherent, they actually aren’t. Science says every other fear we have is reactionary, learned over time and based on our individual experiences.

So, if you’ve got a friend who bungee jumps or climbs mountains, or if you’re the one who does those things, it isn’t due to a lack of fear. It’s facing fear head on.

AROUND THE VALLEY 🏡

Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -

Hope You Weren’t Flying Today đŸ«

Or, you know, having an operation.

Because Windows shut down society again. One bad patch and hospitals and airports, amongst other things, are in chaos.

Technology, eh?

The Las Vegas Athletics Get a Fixed Roof ⚟

Looking forward to having a pro baseball team in the city? Well, hope you’re the patient sort, because you’ve got about four years.

The financial plan for the A’s $1.5 billion (yes, you read that right) ballpark on The Strip was unveiled this week, and the big news is it’s gonna have a fixed roof. Which is probably a good idea considering this summer’s temps.
