TODAYāS WIND DOWN PRESENTED BY
Happy Friday Afternoon, Neighbor!
Did you feel the earthquake around 4 a.m.? Apparently, it was centered near Stovepipe Wells, California, which is in the middle of Death Valley, but sounds like it comes straight out of a Dickens novel.
I did not feel it myself. Iām happy to report I slept right through it. Three cheers for Benadryl, am I right?
Also, donāt forget you can early-vote this weekend!

Did You Know? š
You don't just swap spit when you kiss someone. You also exchange millions and millions of bacteria.
Ah, how romantic.
BacteriaFest 2024
Just how much bacteria do you exchange?
(Do you really want to know?)
Well, it turns out, in just 10 seconds of passionate lip-locking, a single kiss can transfer up to 80 million bacteria between you and your partner. 80. MILLION. Gross.
Researchers discovered this bacterial bonanza while studying the microbial communities of people who kiss often. Thereās no word on how disgusted they were, or how many of them swore off kissing.
But before you decide to go kiss-free, it turns out this bacterial exchange isn't so bad. The body is pretty efficient at getting rid of most of the bacteria introduced through kissing. And, as for the bacteria that do stick around? They actually play a role in keeping your microbiome robust, adding some natural biodiversity to your mouth's ecosystem. So, while 80 million bacteria might sound like a crowd, they're actually giving your immune system a bit of practice. Good news for when that next bout of Covid comes āround.
In other good news, frequent kissers tend to have more similar oral microbiomes than those who don't kiss as much. So, if youāve been kissing your partner for 30 years, youāre probably just exchanging the same bacteria, instead of introducing new bacteria to your ecosystem.
Howās that for a perk of long-term relationships?

CELEBRATING NEVADA DAY š
Itās Nevada Day, the day native and new Nevadans celebrate Nevada becoming an official state. While the big celebration is up in Carson City tomorrow (I mean, you could probably get there if you leave now), you can still celebrate Nevada Day, if youāre so inclined, in a way you see fit.
I think Iāll celebrate it by taking a sledgehammer to my neighborās new howling Halloween decorationā¦
Anyway, in honor of Nevada Day, hereās an additional Did You Knowā¦
Did You Knowā¦?
Nevada's First "Gold Rush" Wasn't in Goldfield
The first big mining push actually started near Las Vegas, in the Potosi District, where Mormons hunted for lead in 1855 - a full decade before the famous Comstock Lode.
Area 51 Wasn't Official Until 2013
Though world-famous, Nevada's Area 51 was only acknowledged by the U.S. government in 2013. Its secretive operations still fuel endless speculation about alien activity.
Nevada is Home to America's "Loneliest Road" - Highway 50
Dubbed "The Loneliest Road" by Life magazine in 1986, Nevada's Highway 50 is a 287-mile stretch of pure desert solitude. Today, "road warriors" can get stamps along the way to prove they've conquered it.
Nevada Has More Ghost Towns Than "Live" Towns
With over 600 ghost towns, Nevada's abandoned mining camps outnumber its active towns.
Nevada Was Born Out of the Civil War
Nevada joined the Union on October 31, 1864, in the middle of the Civil War. President Lincoln fast-tracked its statehood to help secure votes and funding for the Union, despite Nevada's tiny population at the time.
