TODAY’S WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH
Happy Friday Afternoon, Neighbor!
It’s Fight Procrastination Day, so that thing you’ve been putting off? Today’s the day. Since Fight Procrastination Day falls right before a weekend this year, it’s a great day to get into that bigger project you swore you’d one day finish. Like that dollhouse you started, but no one ever got to use, or the backboard that never got a rim… Dad.
In today’s Summerlin City Wind Down:

Wherever you live in Summerlin, there’s a good chance you fall within Lucille’s Smokehouse’s delivery radius, so if you feel like ordering in, you might want to take advantage of their free delivery through September 15th.
Lucille’s Smokehouse (Red Rock Resort): Free Delivery Through September 15
Also, it’s a (fairly) new month, which means a new $6 marg at Chili’s. This month’s is the Sunrise Dream, which includes pineapple juice and grenadine, so it will probably be really freakin’ sweet, but also pretty dang tasty.

Did You Know? 🦊
Fox tossing was once a popular sport.
And, yes, it was exactly what it sounds like.
WARNING: There’s obviously gonna be some troubling (and highly stupid) stuff ahead.
No foxes were harmed during the making of this AI image.
Back in the 17th and 18th centuries, Europe's elite found a way to mix their love of animals (if you could call it that) with a disturbing sense of entertainment by literally tossing foxes into the air.
Participants, typically royalty or nobles… because of course they were, would stand on opposite ends of a large cloth or sling. A live fox would be placed on the fabric, and on the count of three, the "sportsmen" would pull the sling taut, launching the poor fox high into the air. The goal? To see who could fling the fox the highest or farthest.
And it wasn't just foxes. Other animals, like hares, badgers, and even wild boars, often found themselves on the wrong end of these drunken idiot’s slings. Though, presumably boars didn't stay airborne nearly as long.
This grotesque “sport” was often part of larger hunting festivals, giving nobles something to do after they'd gotten tired of traditional hunting or falconry. Because apparently, it wasn't enough to just hunt animals when you were rich and bored - you had to turn them into airborne projectiles.
Unsurprisingly, the animals involved did not appreciate their part in this barbaric event, and many didn’t fare well.
Thankfully, fox (and other animal) tossing eventually fell out of favor, almost certainly due to shifting views on animal cruelty (and probably because everyone realized how brazenly stupid it was). But for a brief, strange period in history, tossing foxes was just another way the rich entertained themselves.
AROUND THE VALLEY 📍
Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -
UNLV Opens at Home 🏈
It's football season, y'all. And if you've been waiting to see the Rebels in action, there are still seats left for tomorrow's home opener against Utah Tech.
Just be strategic with your parking plan, because the parking is more expensive than many of the tickets 🙄
An Actual Art Museum in Vegas? 🎨
Could it be? Will it happen? Might there one day rise an actual art museum in this city? Well, plans are at least moving forward. This week, the city council put their stake down in the land at Symphony Park, and the Las Vegas Museum of Art team announced Frances Kéré as the museum architect.
So, right now everything is full steam ahead, and we might have a real art museum by... 2028. Le sigh.
