TODAYāS WIND DOWN PRESENTED BY
Happy Friday Afternoon, Neighbor!
Feeling festive yet? If not, maybe the Holiday Parade in Downtown Summerlin will get you in the mood. It kicks off tonight at 6 pm and runs through December 21st. š Sporadically. Every Friday and Saturday night at 6. Not like continuously. Those dancers would be exhausted.
Also, in case youāve somehow avoided mention of it, the F1 Grand Prix šļø started yesterday on The Strip, so either avoid The Strip like the plague or find a place to park and try to catch an inexpensive glimpse. But more on that in Around the Valley.

Did You Know? šš¦
āJingle Bellsā was originally written as a Thanksgiving song.
Yes, THAT Jingle Bells, the holiday anthem we all know and hum in department stores by mid-October. Turns out, itās more fitted to earlier in the year than we thought, because this festive tune was never meant for Christmas at all. It was written for Thanksgiving, you know, ācause, apparently, turkey dinners and one-horse open sleighs were all the rage in the mid-19th century.
The song was penned in 1857 by James Lord Pierpont, a music teacher in Savannah, Georgia, who composed it for a Thanksgiving program at his church. And Pierpont didnāt title it āJingle Bells.ā He named the song "One Horse Open Sleigh.ā You might notice the lyrics make no mention of Christmas or gift-giving, and focus entirely on dashing through the snow, laughing all the way, and that joyful chaos of a sleigh ride gone slightly wrong. It was basically the 19th-century version of a Thanksgiving joyride. No seatbelts, no problem.
So, just how did this Thanksgiving tune get hijacked by Christmas? Well, blame its infectious jingle. "One Horse Open Sleigh" became so popular at Thanksgiving gatherings it quickly bled over into the winter holidays. It probably didn't hurt that sleigh bells were more associated with snowy December than late November. After all, how many Thanksgivings are actually snowy? (Sorry, New Englanders and mountaineers - youāre outliers.)
So, by the time Pierpont re-released the song in 1859 under the catchier title "Jingle Bells," the song had cemented itself as a bonafide Christmas classic.
Interestingly, the song's massive success also owes a lot to technology. "Jingle Bells" was one of the first songs ever recorded, way back in 1889 on an Edison cylinder. From there, it snowballed into the Yuletide juggernaut we know today.
So, when youāre building your Thanksgiving playlist, donāt forget āJingle Bells,ā the soundtrack of a rowdy Thanksgiving sleigh ride that transcends holidays.

AROUND THE VALLEY šļø
Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -
Want to Catch a Glimpse of the Race? šļø
I wouldnāt touch The Strip this weekend with a five-mile pole. But thatās just me.
If you dig F1 racing, and would love to catch a glimpse of the cars whizzing by, but find the prices for tickets/everything having to do with F1ā¦ wellā¦ laughable, you may want to use this $6 hack some racing fans discovered.
Basically, you just ride the monorail back-and-forth all night, and it will give you a birdās eye view of things - a better view, you might say, than many of the expensive bleacher seats.
I canāt wait until next year when the monorail stops running during these racesā¦
The Strip Smells Like Weed? Who Knew?! šØ
Speaking of the F1 Grand Prix, one of the drivers has an interesting complaint - that heās inhaling too much pot smoke. The driver is Sergio Perez, and this quote gives me the serious LOLs - āIf they dope the drivers now, I think we'll all test positive, I swear.ā š¤£
Well, what happens in Vegasā¦ gets you kicked off the F1 Circuit, I guess.
