Rosemary bushes are homes to fairies.

Well… according to legend.

That’s right, rosemary isn’t just a tasty addition to your roast chicken or bread. Legend has it, this aromatic herb is a fairy hideaway.

In the ancient Mediterranean, rosemary was considered sacred. The Greeks and Romans revered it for its memory-boosting properties and used the herb (and its lovely scent) in rituals and ceremonies.

But it wasn't all about practicality. Even more ancient folklore told that tiny fairies would nestle within the fragrant branches of rosemary bushes, giving these plants a mystical air. In Spain, it was believed that if you grew rosemary by your garden gate, fairies would bless your home with good fortune, while, in Italy, newlyweds would plant a rosemary bush on their wedding day, hoping the fairies would sprinkle some magic dust on their newly formed unions.

So, if you’ve got a rosemary bush in your yard, be careful trimming. You never know what creatures (and magic) you might be cutting away.
