TODAYā€™S WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH

Happy Tuesday Afternoon, Neighbor!

I finally had occasion to go into the Michaels in Downtown Summerlin last night. (I know I talked about it so much, you would think I would have rushed in Day One, but, what can I say, I was well-stocked in crafting supplies until now.) Anyway, that place is HUGE. I think they have more space than they know what to do with. I personally recommend they stock it with a bit more photo paper, but Iā€™m not their buyer, so if anyone has any idea where I can get some high-quality 13Ɨ19 photo paper that doesnā€™t cost $10 billion, please let me know.

TODAYā€™S HAPPY HOURS & EATS šŸØ

Itā€™s National Root Beer Float Day, and, while not exactly a Happy Hour staple, sometimes a root beer float just really hits the spot, you know what I mean? And there are a couple of places giving away free floats today in honor of the occasion.

Now, if you want to go to a specialist for your free root beer float, your nearest A&W is in Boulder City. You just have to do a Float Flex to prove you can handle its substantial heft, which is pretty fun really, and Iā€™m not gonna lie, Iā€™m kinda tempted. (Which is dumb. Iā€™d spend more money on gas getting to Boulder City and back than the cost of the float, but thereā€™s just something about flexinā€™ for my prize.)

For those looking for something a little more in the neighborhood, Wienerschnitzel also has free root beer floats today. You wonā€™t have to flex for it, but you will need this coupon from their page. For the record, they make their root beer floats with Barqā€™s root beer, which I hold is the superior root beer for sipping, but I go back and forth on whether A&W or Barqā€™s is the superior root beer for a float. Maybe I should get both floats today for a side-by-side comparison?

Did You Know? šŸŽ

Horses are the only animals that take part in the modern Olympic Games, but there was a time that pigeons did too... as targets.

That's right, while horses have been busy showing off their skills in dressage, eventing, and show jumping since 1900 (with their official debut coming in 1912), pigeons found themselves in the line of fire. Also at the 1900 Summer Olympics, which also, coincidentally, took place in Paris, pigeons were introduced into the games in the form of a pigeon shooting event. And it was just what it sounds like. Competitors took aim at live pigeons, trying to shoot as many as possible to win the gold. Letā€™s just say, it was neither the Olympic organizersā€™ nor the pigeonsā€™ finest hour.

The only silver lining here is that the Olympic committee quickly realized their very unfortunate mistake. Facing serious backlash, they withdrew the event immediately following the 1900 Olympics, making the highly unpopular Live Pigeon Shooting a one-time affair.

So, while horses continue to gallop their way into Olympic glory, pigeons can at least rest easy knowing the only pigeons in todayā€™s games are clay.

AROUND THE VALLEY (AND FRANCE)šŸ“

Here are some things Around the Valley (and the Olympics) we think might be of interest -

They Moonwalked in Water! šŸŒŠ

If youā€™re gonna do your synchronized swimming routine to a Michael Jackson song, you kind of have to incorporate the moonwalk, right? Donā€™t worry. The U.S. Artistic Swimming Team understood the assignment.

Meanwhile, across the globe in Tahiti, a whale made an appearance in a big way during the womenā€™s semifinals in Surfing.

Dunks ā€˜N Dogs šŸ€
