the Aces are in the play-offs!
Happy Tuesday Afternoon, Neighbor!
How was your weekend?
We did a couple of things right here in our neck of the woods over the weekend that were definite wins.
First up, on Friday night, we went to the Grand Opening tasting at Ethel M in Downtown Summerlin. (Yes, it’s still a bit weird that they had a Grand Opening when they’ve been open at that location for almost a year, but, hey, I’ll take free chocolate where I can get it.) And holy smokes y’all, that chocolate was tasty. 🍫 I’ve had a lot of Ethel M chocolates, but the Apple Cinnamon situation and the Bananas Foster dream bomb that they served on Friday night were some of the best. They also gave everyone an extra piece of waiting-in-line chocolate (passion fruit caramel), also ridiculously good.
Anyway, if you’re new to the area and don’t know about Ethel M, the chocolate is fresh, made with natural ingredients, and is some of the best chocolate we’ve found in this here country.
Then, on Saturday night, we had the opportunity to go to Starbright Theatre. And by “the opportunity,” I mean there was someone there I actually wanted to see. So, we did. And you know what? It really is a gem of a little theater right here in Summerlin. The acoustics are good, the seats are cushy, and it’s small, so it’s hard to imagine a bad seat in the house. (I don’t know if I’d choose the ones on the furthest edges, but the sound should still be good.) Tickets to most shows there are pretty cheap, so if you find something you want to see, I recommend it for comfort and sound.
Also, don’t forget, we won’t be back in your inboxes until Friday. Until then, may these earliest days of fall (or, you know, what fall is here) be good to you.
And now…

TODAY’S HAPPY HOURS & EATS 🐟
Just last week, I convinced myself I would be hesitant to share any prix-fixes that seemed like good deals. We’ve been burned way too many times on “special menus.” But, well… Bonefish Grill is doing a limited-time 3-courser, and I thought I should at least share that fact with you and let you decide if it’s worth the risk.
The prix-fixe is available Mondays-Thursdays, and comes with soup or salad, one of nine entree options, and dessert. Will you take the dive? If you do, let me know how it goes.

Did You Know? 🦗
Grasshoppers don't actually jump at you (even if it often seems like they do). They just have a really terrible sense of direction.
Poor little idiots.
Proof it could be worse. You could see it coming at you in slo-mo.
When you come upon a grasshopper during those infested summers, and it leaps from the pavement and bounces off your arm, it’s not actually aiming to freak you out or go head-to-head in some buggy showdown. The truth is much simpler - they have no idea which direction they’re gonna jump.
Grasshoppers, like most creatures in the wild, are all about survival. When they feel threatened, their first instinct is to jump away as fast as possible. In their frantic urge to escape, they don’t have time to think, "Should I hop left or right?" They just take off in the fastest available direction, which is whichever direction their legs are pointing. Sometimes that direction is toward the very thing they're trying to avoid - you (you terrifying predator). And when that happens, that's just bad luck for the both of you.
It doesn’t help that grasshopper's legs are marvels of engineering. Their back legs contain a complex "muscle spring" mechanism that stores energy before release, like a coiled spring. This stored energy is pretty potent. When a grasshopper jumps, it can launch itself up to 20 times its body length in a single wild bound. It's pretty much a superpower for escape. Unfortunately, precision isn't part of the deal.
So, next time you find yourself on the receiving end of a grasshopper's chaotic leap, remember it’s not choosing violence. It’s just trying to survive, even if its escape plan is a little... haphazard.

Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -
Like Coldplay? 🎤
If you’re a fan, or even a casual listener, you probably would have been really jazzed to be at Dino’s Lounge on Saturday night. Chris Martin showed up there to sing karaoke. You know, as you do.
The Aces are in the Playoffs 🏀
