Did You Know? 🫃🏾

Your stomach acid is so potent it can dissolve metal.

While it might sound like something straight out of a superhero comic, the acid in your stomach - mainly composed of hydrochloric acid - has a pH level between 1 and 2. This makes it one of the most destructive acids found in nature.

Just how destructive?

Scientists found that after submerging razor blades in a solution simulating stomach acid, the blades lost about 37% of their mass within just 24 hours, making them thin and brittle. And, within 48 hours, those blades were no more.

But before you think about testing this out - PLEASE DON’T! - keep in mind that there’s still plenty of danger to be had along the way. Before it even reaches your stomach, a razor blade would likely tear up your esophagus, and then your stomach lining, long before your stomach acid got a chance to show off its metal-melting mettle… so to speak.

So why doesn't our stomach just dissolve itself, given that it's filled with this incredibly corrosive acid? We can thank a clever protective mechanism. Your stomach has a special lining that secretes a thick layer of mucus, which acts like a force field, preventing the acid from eating through the stomach wall. Your stomach lining also regenerates itself every few days, making sure that, if it does get damaged, no damage gets too far.

Basically, it’s your stomach’s little biosphere, keeping the bad stuff out and the good stuff - like burritos and tiramisu - in.

AROUND THE VALLEY 📍

Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -

Fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber? 🎭

If so, you won’t want to miss the Concert in the Park on Saturday at Centennial Hills Park Amphitheater. The concert features “artists from Phantom on Broadway and The Metropolitan Opera for a special night honoring the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber.”

That means CATS. That means Evita. That means Jesus Christ Superstar.

But don’t worry if the only ALW show you’re really familiar with is Phantom of the Opera. While the first half of the show is a mix of Lloyd Webber’s other musicals, the second half goes all-in on Phantom.

You can get your free tickets at the link above!

A’ja Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop 🏀

And, apparently, no one can stop her.

You might remember that, just last week, A’ja Wilson broke the WNBA record for the most points scored in a single season. Well, yesterday, she added to that, becoming the first WNBA player to score 1,000 points in a single season. She managed the feat with less than two minutes left to play, and, presumably, celebrated all night.

Or slept.

She probably slept.
