Google Fiber is coming to Vegas!
TODAY’S WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH
Happy Thursday Afternoon, Neighbor!
Did anyone get out to Summerlin Sounds last night? Or go for a Global Running Day Run in Downtown Summerlin? It was too hot for us, but we do hope some of you had good times sweatin’ it out in the 105° temps. 🥵
In a bit of news, the City of Las Vegas approved the expansion of Google Fiber yesterday, which means there will finally be some competition for Internet service in the Valley. Unfortunately, that service won’t start until mid-next year, but more choice and some competition in pricing (not to mention the possibility of a little faster speeds) will be nice.
Also, I had a chance to go by the Michaels this morning, and there is, in fact, a big “Now Open” banner out front, so consider that confirmed.

TODAY’S HAPPY HOURS (FEATURING MOONSHINE) 🥃
Well… whiskey. Which is about as close as you can get in a legal substance.
Why moonshine, you may ask? Because it’s National Moonshine Day. Or close to it. There’s some debate as to what day it actually falls on, but it’s right around the first Thursday in June, and here we are, so…
Anyway, if you want to honor National Moonshine Day, you’ve got a few options. You could whip up a batch of hooch at home (though, it IS illegal), pop out to a liquor store and buy one of those mason jar boozes that call themselves moonshine (though, they’re really just forms of whiskey), or you could incorporate a little whiskey into your Happy Hour.
If you choose the latter option, here are some places that give nods to whiskey on their Happy Hour menus. Though, we’re not sure the last two should count.

Did You Know? 🥃
Though it as taken on a significantly different meaning today, XXX used to be a symbol of quality moonshine.
Back in the days of Prohibition, when making your own liquor was as American as apple pie, moonshiners needed a way to mark their best batches. Enter the triple X. Each X stood for a round of distillation, and the triple X, indicating a moonshine had been distilled three times, was the best of the best - the purest, the strongest, and and the smoothest sip you'd ever sneak past the law.
In the world of clandestine booze-making, Xs were a lot like Michelin stars, and XXX was as top-shelf as it got.
So, while moonshine itself was a little rough around the edges, bootleggers did take pride in the quality of their product. Their triple-distilled concoctions were the best of the best, ensuring drinkers they were in for the highest-quality (and most intoxicating) experience.
TODAY’S RESTAURANT SPECIALS + RESTAURANT WEEK PREVIEW
Well, it’s still Restaurant Week, and we're still wandering around Summerlin.
But before we get to that, we’ve got a few Restaurant Week restaurants with limited windows that you’ll want to get on this weekend if you wanna go.
First up, Hussong’s Cantina only serves brunch on Saturday and Sunday, so if you’re leaning toward their brunch prix-fixe, you better get on that reservation.
The same goes for North Italia. The brunch prix-fixe is Saturday and Sunday only, so it’s this weekend or nothin’.
And last up, Naxos Taverna only serves lunch Friday-Sunday, so you’ve only got four possible days (tomorrow-Sunday and next Friday) if that’s your pick.
Now, back to the Boca Park area and the restaurants around, but not quite in, Boca Park that are participating in Restaurant Week.
Also, if you’re feeling carnivorous, you can get your meat on at a discount at these places tonight -
Al’s Garage (Summerlin West) - Steak & Crab Special $25
11760 W Charleston Blvd
All Day
BJ’s Brewhouse (Charleston West) - Tri-Tip or 1/2 Rack of Ribs $19 (with a Pizookie!) + $6 Call Drinks

Got a vacation coming up? Don’t forget travel insurance! It’s cheap and the peace of mind you need. Plus, travel is already stressful enough!
