đŸ© National Doughnut Day, Restaurant Week Brunches & More!

And interesting shopping sales this weekend!

TODAY’S WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH

Happy Friday Afternoon, Neighbor!

Well, it’s National Doughnut Day đŸ©, arguably one of the most important days of the year. I meant to mention it yesterday, so you could get in on the celebration this morning if you were so inclined, but sometimes my mind goes by way of Perfection. Have you ever played that game? It’s the worst. You have to get the little shapes into their shape holes before the timer runs out, or the board pops them all out at you like a jack-in-the-box surprise. It terrorized me as a child.

Anyway, it IS still National Doughnut Day, and you CAN still get on the free doughnuts at a couple of places.

Also, if you’re a shopping fiend, you’ve got some interesting choices this weekend Beyond Summerlin.

In today's Summerlin City Wind Down:

  • Today's (And This Weekend's) Happy Hours / Donut Situation đŸ©

  • Did You Know? (Donut Edition) đŸ©

  • This Weekend's Brunch + Restaurant Week Preview 😋

  • The Weekend's Events & Live Music đŸŽ”

  • Beyond Summerlin 🚗

Let's get to it. See you on the other side.

But first up, a quick note from our sponsor. Mmmm... tea. (Don't miss the discount code to save 20%!)

TODAY’S AND THIS WEEKEND’S HAPPY HOURS / DONUT SITUATION đŸ©

Though I’m late to the National Doughnut Day Party, there are still a couple of places you can nab a free doughnut today before the night is through -

Dunkin’ is handing out a free doughnut with the purchase of a beverage. Not the BEST Doughnut Day deal, but passable enough.

If you happen to be outside of Summerlin and near a Krispy Kreme, you can score a better deal with your favorite classic doughnut free. That’s any classic doughnut, not just original glazed, no purchase required. But if you are a big fan of their original glazed, and you can eat a LOT of doughnuts (or have, like, a football team to share them with), you can tack on a dozen original glazed for $2 with the purchase of a dozen at regular price.

GET YOUR DOUGHNUTS

  • Dunkin' (Summerlin West) - Free Doughnut with Drink Purchase

    11710 W Charleston Blvd

    Closes at 7 pm

  • Dunkin' (Summerlin South-ish) - Free Doughnut with Drink Purchase

    3481 S Durango Dr

    Closes at 7 pm

  • Krispy Kreme (Beyond Summerlin) - Free Classic Doughnut

    Multiple Locations

    Some are 24 hours!

SPECIAL WEEKEND HAPPY HOURS

There are plenty of places with Happy Hours around the area tonight. For a full list, check out our Friday Happy Hours list.

Or, if you want to incorporate something a little different into your weekend Happy Hour rounds (and celebrate National Moonshine Day a few days late), you’ve got a unique option at HarlØ Steakhouse on Sunday with their Spot On Sunday, a combination tasting of Spot Whiskey with an extended happy hour.

  • Spot On Sunday - Spot Whiskey Tasting with Extended HarlØ Hour

    HarlØ Steakhouse (Downtown Summerlin)

    1720 Festival Plaza Dr

    4-9 pm

Or, if you’ve had that moonshine on tap since Thursday, turn it into your own bartender-worthy cocktails at home for free with Mixologist Master

Did You Know? đŸ©

National Doughnut Day is more than just an excuse to indulge in sugary, deep-fried goodness. It was started in honor of the “Doughnut Girls” or “Donut Lassies” of World War I.

Steeped in history and heroism, this 86-year-old tradition was started by the Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938 to honor their "donut lassies," brave volunteers who served morale-boosting treats and provided vital assistance to soldiers on the front lines during World War I.

It was 1917, and the resourceful “doughnut girls” fried up doughnuts in helmets, using makeshift stoves, to bring a taste of home to the battle-weary troops in the trenches of France. They concocted thousands of doughnuts (and other sweet treats) daily, filling hungry stomachs and raising spirits. These doughnuts became a symbol of comfort, embodying the spirit of home amidst the horrors of war.

So, every first Friday in June, when you’re sinking your teeth into a (hopefully) free and delicious doughnut, you’re taking a bite out of of history and honoring the courageous women who baked up some serious morale on the front lines.

THIS WEEKEND’S BRUNCH + RESTAURANT WEEK PREVIEW

If you’re looking for the perfect spot to have brunch this weekend, you’ve got a few Restaurant Week prix-fixes to consider. We’ve already mentioned Hussong’s Cantina’s and North Italia’s brunch offerings, but not too far beyond the Summerlin edges, you’ve got another option at Summer House at Durango Resort.

RESTAURANT WEEK BRUNCH

Or, if brunch isn’t your thing and you’re still looking for that perfect Restaurant Week meal, these are the remaining restaurants in the area with participating prix-fixes.

Got a vacation coming up? Don’t forget travel insurance! It’s cheap and the peace of mind you need. Plus, travel is already stressful enough!

BEYOND SUMMERLIN 🚗

Well, we promised you interesting shopping, and we think we can deliver.

First up, Las Vegas Premium Outlets North is celebrating National Outlet Shopping Day on both Saturday and Sunday with Elvis, showgirls, and giveaways.

But for an even more unique shopping experience, you won’t want to miss the Garage Sale at the Magical Forest, where they’re clearing out some old stuff, including their Halloween and winter holiday decorations.

If you didn’t get outside for National Trails Day last weekend, and you think you can stand the desert heat, you’ve got another chance with Free Adventure Day on Saturday, when fees are waved at Nevada State Parks, including Spring Mountain Ranch and Valley of Fire.

And Pride continues in East Vegas this weekend.
