TODAY’S (AND TOMORROW’S) SPLURGE-WORTHY HAPPY HOURS 🦀

Well, it’s National Splurge Day, so let’s splurge.

Today, we’re talking Happy Hours with some super expensive dishes on their Happy Hour menus.

First up, at William B’s, they’ve got a pan-fried seafood tower that is in a pan and is fried, but is a loose definition of a “tower.” Still, it’s a good amount of seafood for $40. (It also happens to be what their Happy Hour, aka the“Tower Hour,” is named for.) Unfortunately, the restaurant is closed today, so if a seafood tower is your splurge of your choice, you’re going to have to postpone your celebration until tomorrow.

For a today option, just down the road at North Italia, they’ve got the Bottle & Board, which is a little pricey… or is it? Also priced at $40, the Bottle & Board consists of a pizza, a board (chef’s or farmers market), and a bottle of white or red wine. So, actually maybe not pricey? We’ll let you decide.

Along with being National Splurge Day, it’s also International Sushi Day, which can be a bit of a splurge, even at Happy Hour, so if it’s sushi you’re feeling, here’s where you can score some at Happy Hour tonight.

Did You Know? 🦂

Desert scorpions have built-in sensors they use to detect their prey.

A pic that makes scorpions look cute, because I can’t stand to look at the real thing.

Covered head-to-claw in tiny, erect hairs called trichobothria, these arachnids have the ability to detect vibrations in the air or the ground. It’s basically like having a full-body radar system.

When an unsuspecting insect buzzes nearby or a critter scurries across the sand, the vibrations cause these microscopic and sensitive hairs to twitch. The twitching sends signals to the scorpion's brain, allowing it to detect the exact location and movement of its prey.

But it gets even cooler. These hairs can detect both ground vibrations and air currents, so scorpions can sense their prey whether it's walking on the ground or flying above them. And with that direct hair-to-brain connection, they don’t even need their eyes to do it, which is what makes them such masterful hunters even in complete darkness.

Too bad they’re still super creepy.

TODAY’S RESTAURANT SPECIALS 🍷

We’ve very nearly made it to summer, and I heard “Summer Wine” on something I watched the other day, so in convergence of those two things, we’re talking wine specials. Namely, some places where you can get it for a lot less today. (Just don’t lose your spurs.)

First up, Tuesdays at JING are 80s Wine Night Tuesdays, so if you want to drink your ½ off bottles with some great tunes in a nostalgic vibe, you know where you can do it.

Or, if you’d just like some good and good-priced wine with a slice, you can get ½ off wine (glasses and bottles) or seasonal sangria at Grimaldi’s today.
