Happy Tuesday Afternoon, Neighbor!
What happened to the weather, am I right? Not that I particularly wanted a cold, dreary rain, but I was told it was coming, and I thought thereād be more snow in them thar mountains. Anyway, the storm missed usā¦ just barely. But will it be winterās last stand? Time will tell.
Also, the Lunar New Year dƩcor is up at Downtown Summerlin through February 5th, and the parade is tomorrow.
Happy Lunar New Year, Friends!

TODAYāS HAPPY HOURS & EATS šš„¤
Love it when a good cause gives you an excuse to grab a milkshake (or a burg)? Shake Shack in Downtown Summerlin is having a fundraiser tomorrow for Mommy & Me West. Just mention āDonation Dayā in-store or use the promo code āDONATEā if ordering on the website, and 25% of your meal purchase will go toward helping the littlest kiddos do cool stuff and develop big ole brainsā¦ or at least a few more social skills.
The fundraiser also coincides nicely with the Lunar New Year Parade at 6 pm!

Speaking of the Lunar New Year Parade, thereās also a KIRIN ICHIBAN tasting experience at the Downtown Summerlin Dining Arroyo tomorrow. Itās from 4-5:30 pm (just before the parade!), and youāll probably get a thimble of beerā¦ but itās free.

Did You Know? š§§š²
Thereās a reason red is the color of Lunar New Yearā¦ and itās legendary.

If you've ever been a part of, or seen, Lunar New Year celebrations, you know red isn't just a color - it's THE color. From red envelopes to red lanterns, the whole celebration seems like it's dipped in vibrant crimson. But why red? And why so much of it. Well, the answer lies in a mix of ancient legend, cultural symbolism, and the undeniable power of a bold, lucky hue.
According to legend, red became the star of Lunar New Year thanks to a terrifying creature named Nian (literally meaning "Year"). Nian was a monstrous beast that loved nothing more than terrorizing villages every Lunar New Year's Eve. The lion-dragon hybrid (cool, right?) had a taste for livestock, crops, and - most horrifyingly - children.
As youād expect, villagers thought Nian was pretty much a jerk, and lived in fear of its annual visit. Until they discovered the beastās fears: loud noises, bright lights, and, yes, the color red. While itās not entirely certain how the villagers discovered this, some versions of the story say an old man let them in on the secret and taught them how to fight back. (And old people have been around for a while and seen a lot of stuff, so thatās probably pretty legit.)
Anyway, armed with this crackerjack knowledge, the villagers hung red decorations, wore red clothes, and set off firecrackers to scare Nian away. Nian bolted, never to return, and the villagers were like, āHey, that was pretty effective. We should probably do this every New Year.ā
As if warding off a lion-headed dragon monster isnāt enough reason to don your best red frocks, beyond the legend, red holds deep cultural significance in Chinese tradition. It's the color of good luck, happiness, and prosperity, which makes it a pretty apt choice for ushering in a fresh New Year full of hope and opportunity. Those red envelopes (hongbao) filled with money are a way to pass on blessings to younger generations, while red lanterns and decorations are believed to attract fortune and ward off bad vibes. Essentially, red isn't just decorative - it's an act of cosmic-level positivity. And I think we could all use a little of that.

Around the Valley š²š°
Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -
Donāt Forget About the Bellagio š²
While most of the Lunar New Year celebrations around the Valley are holding off until the weekend, the Bellagioās Lunar New Year display is in full swing. Youāve got a while to see it. It will be up through March 1st. But if youāre looking for something special to do tomorrow, itās one option.
Is The Stripās Luster Fading? š°
Revenue at Strip casinos are down. 6% down year-over-year, as of October. Which is considerable.
But that doesnāt mean gambling is becoming less popular. Revenues at local casinos, like those over here around these parts, were up 11.5% over the same period.
Now, Iām not saying itās the F1 Grand Prixās fault, but I am saying Iād rather drive through a field of fresh cow patties with the top down than get anywhere near The Strip in the latter half of the year now.
Plus, those show prices on The Strip now. They make me laugh š¤£.
