Happy Thursday Afternoon, Neighbor!

Did you survive that air quality yesterday? That was somethin’, wasn’t it? None of it good. But there is good news today! Today’s forecast is a little less cough-inducing, which means you can probably go outside if you’re so inclined.

Or, you know, just brave the outdoors long enough to get from your place to a Happy Hour 😉

In today’s Summerlin City Wind Down:

  • Today's Happy Hours & Eats (Featuring News & More Football) 🏈

  • Did You Know? 🌳

  • Around the Valley 🏀

  • Today’s Events & Live Music 💶💲

  • Staying In? Check Out These Awesome Things 👍

Let's get to it. See you on the other side.

But first up, a quick note from our sponsor.

Why We Love Losing Money

How does a company start from nothing, grow and thrive for 45 years, and sell items for less than they cost?

Only by building long term relationships. That means innovating, executing, and taking care of every customer like they are the most important person in the world.

But even more than that, it means caring. Caring about customers, caring about employees, caring about quality, and caring about doing the right thing.

Let Queensboro show you the secret of their 45-year success. Let them do what they love and put your logo on a custom-embroidered polo or hat for just $4.95, including logo setup and embroidery.

Welcome to your new partner for custom logo apparel & promotional products. Trust the Queen for just $4.95.

TODAY’S HAPPY HOURS & EATS (Featuring News & More Football) 🏈

Do you love you some Lola’s? Then, you may want to know that the restaurant has changed ownership. But not to an extreme. They’re keeping it close, and it’s actually a really cool story. The restaurant’s general manager, Tamara Castaneda, is its new owner. Castaneda started working at Lola’s as a hostess. Pretty sweet trajectory, right?

But most importantly, Lola’s does have a Happy Hour!

  • Lola’s

  • Summerlin North

  • Happy Hour 4-6 pm

Feeling some other sort of way? Check out our list of Thursday Happy Hours.

And if you’re interested in the outcome of our poll, the winner is:

Just a drink/snack

&

It’s dinner

That’s right. We have ourselves a tie. Eleven people said “Just a drink/snack.” Eleven people said “It’s dinner.” So, it seems (as of 12:12 pm), we’re evenly divided on how Happy Hour works for us. I’ll keep you updated if anyone else responds and it starts to lean one way or the other.

Did You Know? 🌳

Oak trees don't hit their prime until they're 50.

While many of us are out there chasing midlife crises, oak trees are aging with aplomb.

Like humans, most oaks take some time to grow up. The majority of oak species begin producing acorns around the tender age of 20, right after those awkward teenage years. Also like many humans, the oaks are trying, but success at life (aka acorn production) is a little spotty at first.

It’s only once an oak hits the big 5-0 that things really start to take off. Between the ages of 50 and 80, oak trees enter their prime acorn-producing years, cranking out those ‘corns like nature's factory. Heres where oaks are in their primes, peak athletes, except instead of world records, they're dropping those acorns everywhere.

After age 80, oak trees start to slow down a bit. Don’t we all? They're still producing acorns, but the numbers taper off. Basically, they still like a good game of a-ball, but they need a little more time between games to rest off their aches.

AROUND THE VALLEY 🏀

Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -

A'ja Does The Thing 🏀

Speaking of breaking sports records, the Aces’ own A’ja Wilson just did that. She broke the WNBA record for most points in a single season in the Aces' win over the Fever yesterday. Better yet? She hit the 941 points that put her over the top in the first half, and ended the game with 956 points on the season. And the season’s not over.

That’s a sweet little stat to add to an Olympic gold medal.

It’s the Drunken Tourists’ Fault 🚘

Can’t get enough of spending more money for the same stuff? Well, good news, your auto insurance rate is likely going up! You can thank drunk-driving “partygoers,” which, let’s be real, are more likely tourists/weekend-trippers than not. But maybe I’m wrong. After all, this very newsletter loves (and promotes) a good Happy Hour. So, I guess what I’m saying is - Please don’t overindulge and drive. I don’t want to get into an accident when it’s 100 degrees out and I’m tired of paying more for the same car insurance.

(I’m also tired of paying more for the same streaming service, but that’s a separate rant.)
