đŸŽ” Last Summerlin Sounds, Rocket Launch, & A New McFlurry

and the 7th best Indian restaurant in the nation! 🍛

TODAY’S WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH

Happy Wednesday Afternoon, Neighbor!

Willing to brave the heat for some tunes from the 60s through today’s chart toppers? If so, tonight’s your last chance to get to Summerlin Sounds on the Downtown Summerlin Lawn this season. đŸŽ”

And speaking of Downtown Summerlin, there’s been a proposal for a new DTS housing complex right next to the upcoming Whole Foods. So, what are your thoughts? Yay for more housing with super nearby amenities? Or are you wondering what the parking situation is going to be?

Especially since there’s a standalone Starbucks going into the same plaza, and if you’ve ever had to creep around the cars waiting in the Starbucks drive-thru line in Boca Park, you know what a cluster-jam that can create. So, I guess I’m just hoping for no drive-thru at the Starbucks.

And on the matter of that whole plaza, while I’m pretty stoked about it, I had to run errands this morning and drove right past it on Town Center Drive, and that construction is getting unruly.

TODAY’S HAPPY HOURS & EATSđŸđŸ„„

đŸŽ¶ If you like piña coladas đŸŽ¶â€Š then today’s the day for you. It’s National Piña Colada Day. And here’s the deal -

Though a piña colada is technically a well or call drink, because it contains only a single liquor that should be readily available in your bartender’s well, a lot of bartenders won’t make them because they are a pain to make. But that doesn’t mean you can’t ask.

To determine the likelihood you’ll actually get hooked up with a piña colada at Happy Hour, peruse the drink menu. If you see all the main ingredients for a piña colada listed as ingredients in other drinks - pineapple juice, coconut cream, and rum - the bartender should be able to make one. Whether they will or not is another story.

So, if you want to test your luck with a piña colada (or something piña colada like) today, here are some places with Happy Hour well drinks, one of which serves a signature cocktail that’s almost a piña colada.

Prefer a booze-free pick-me-up that has to be at least 97% sugar this afternoon? McDonald’s has a new McFlurry flavor - the Kit Kat Banana Split McFlurry - just released today, which sounds like something a monkey would absolutely steal from you given the chance 🐒

Did You Know? đŸ„ƒ

Winston Churchill got a doctor's note to drink while visiting the U.S. during Prohibition.

That’s right, even the British Bulldog needed a doctor's excuse to get around the booze ban in America. And he was just a hound enough to get it.

In December 1931, while on a lecture tour in New York City, Churchill was hit by a car. The accident left him with a head wound, a broken nose, cracked ribs, and a lot of bruises. As part of his recovery, Churchill received a special prescription from his doctor at Lenox Hill Hospital. The note declared that his "post-accident convalescence" required the consumption of alcoholic spirits, especially at meal times. The quantity prescribed was "naturally indefinite," but at least 250 cubic centimeters daily was recommended. (That’s over 8 ounces! And we’re talking real spirits here, not wine or beer!)

While this might just seem like a personal indulgence for a powerful man, during Prohibition many doctors wrote alcohol prescriptions for "medicinal" purposes, making it a common way to legally obtain alcohol. Just how many were written? Well, it's estimated millions of Americans were on booze regimens during the Prohibition era. But, to be fair, there were probably a lot of bad backs under 1920’s working conditions.

AROUND THE VALLEY 🚀

Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -

Rockets, Rockets Everywhere 🚀

If you keep missing the rockets launching from Vandenberg Space Force Station, you get another chance tonight. Space X’s Falcon 9 is on the move again. Though, since it launches at 7 pm and daylight’s sticking around until 8, I suspect the visibility will be so-so. Not to mention, it will probably be about a billion degrees. But, hey, if you’re out at Summerlin Sounds, don’t forget to look up.

Tandoori, Anyone? 🍛

If you love Indian food, you are probably always looking for a new place that hits your taste buds just right (like I am). Well, apparently, Rutba Indian Kitchen in China Town is a place we all need to try. It was ranked the 7th best Indian restaurant in the country by Yelp users, and while it’s a little Beyond Summerlin, at least it’s on this side of The Strip.
