TODAY’S WIND DOWN PRESENTED BY

Happy Tuesday Afternoon, Neighbor!

If you’ve been looking for a way to help LA that doesn’t involve just donating money, the Rotary Club of Las Vegas Red Rock is holding a supply drive tonight from 5-8 pm. They need all sorts of essential supplies, including device chargers and lightly used clothing and shoes. So, if you’ve got some high-quality electronics or used clothes you’ve been meaning to take to Goodwill, LA could use them more and you can drop them by the truck tonight.

Did You Know? 🥶

Humans aren't the only species to get goosebumps - nearly all mammals get them.

Ahhhhhhh! We’re bumpy!

Goosebumps might feel like a decidedly human quirk, especially when you experience them while listening to music or from hearing a creepy story, but they're actually a fairly universal mammal thing. From your pet cat to a majestic elephant, all of our furry (and some not-so-furry) friends experience this strange little phenomenon.

Goosebumps happen when tiny muscles at the base of hair follicles contract, causing the hair to stand on end. It's an evolutionary leftover from the days when we were all a little hairier and needed to look bigger and scarier to predators, with the helpful side effect of helping us keep warm when the weather turned frosty.

So, why do we call them goose bumps when it's mammals that get them? Geese don't even need them, those feathers keep them pretty darn warm. It’s all about the visuals, of course. I think we can all agree that, when we get goosebumps, we look a lot like plucked geese. And that’s why the name stuck. We all go goose when we get cold, or scared, or *ahem* otherwise otherwise overly stimulated. But honestly, the whole thing feels a bit like a branding error. Shouldn't we call them "mammal bumps" or "fur frights"? Either would be a pretty fitting name.

Ever notice a cat's fur puff up when it's startled? That's their version of goosebumps cranked to an 11. For animals with thick coats, this reaction traps heat and keeps them warm, like nature's version of layering up with a puffy jacket. For us smooth-skinned mammals, it's a little less practical, and more of a spooky flex.

So, the next time you feel those goosebumps ripple across your skin, know that you're sharing this biological reaction with nearly every other mammal on the planet. From the tiniest mouse to the mightiest lion, we're all in this bumpy club together.

Is Planet Hollywood Cursed? 🌎

Two, yes two, of Planet Hollywood Live’s upcoming residencies have been pushed.

The Black Eyed Peas, who were supposed to start shows in mid-February, have cancelled their residency due to “current circumstances,” which lends a lot to the imagination, doesn’t it?

The Scorpions, who were supposed to start shows in late-February, have been rescheduled for August due to illness in the band.

Now, I’m not saying Planet Hollywood did somethin’, but, if karma is real, maybe Planet Hollywood did somethin’.
