A sunflower isn't just one big flower.
It’s a collection of hundreds of tiny flowers.
A sunflower may look to us like one giant, beautiful flower head, but when you're looking into the bright, cheerful face of a sunflower, you're actually seeing an inflorescence made up of small individual flowers called florets. The large yellow "petals" around the outside are ray florets, while the center is packed with tiny disc florets, each capable of becoming a seed of its own.
The sunflower's design is just one of the many marvels of nature's engineering. Not only do these flowers provide a mega-feast for pollinators, but their tightly packed florets follow the Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical pattern found in many natural structures. This arrangement allows the sunflower to maximize seed production in its head, making it an efficient powerhouse of reproduction. That’s why when you pass an untouched sunflower field, it just seems to go on forever. All summer long, these beautiful flowers are busy getting busy.
But, while the disc floret structure may be quite noticeable in sunflowers, due to their seriously giant heads, it isn't unique to sunflowers. The structure is common to all plants in the sunflower (Asteraceae) family, which includes daisies, asters, and even the humble dandelion. And all of these tiny florets don’t just make the sunflower and its relatives pretty faces, they make them super-efficient pollinator attractors. Each individual floret can be pollinated individually, turning a sunflower head into a busy hub for bees and other pollinating fliers​.
So, in essence, the sunflower and its kin are multi-wonders - part floral mosaics, part mathematical wonders, and 100% sexy to bees.

More Campaign Traffic 🛫
There’s yet another temporary flight restriction at Harry Reid International Airport tonight and tomorrow. The restriction starts today at 2:30 pm and runs through 6 pm tomorrow. Expect ground stops and flight delays.
If you have to go anywhere near Downtown or The Strip, you should expect random road closures as well.
