TODAY’S WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH
Happy Monday Afternoon, Neighbor!
We’ve got a super exciting Grand Opening event coming up at Downtown Summerlin. At least, we think it’s super exciting.
Ethel M Chocolates is hosting two free tasting events next weekend (Friday, September 20 and Saturday, September 21). The tastings are different each night, and, if you’ve never been to an Ethel M tasting on the other side of town, the one we went to was pretty darn awesome. And, honestly, I’m just glad their DTS location has gone from pop-up store to full Ethel M.
Also, a big THANK YOU to our newest members. We hope you enjoyed your advanced notice of the free Ethel M tasting. If you’d like to support your local team, and get advanced notice of upcoming events, you too can become an insider.
Also, it’s International Sudoku Day, a day I can get firmly behind. The numbers 1 through 9 have never been so invigorating 🔢

TODAY’S HAPPY HOURS & EATS 🏈
Well, we’re back to that time of year when literally everything is about American football. And plenty of restaurants want you to know they’re playing the Monday Night game on all of their screens. And this is where being West-Coasters can be pretty advantageous. Because the game starts at 5:15 PST, which puts you smack dab in the middle of Happy Hour at a lot of places. Here are some of the spots where you can catch Happy Hour and get a pretty good view of a TV at the same time.
Aces and Ales (Summerlin North): 4-6 pm
Chili’s (Boca Park Area) - 3-6 pm
Distill (West Charleston) - 3-6 pm
Lazy Dog (Downtown Summerlin) - 3-6 pm
PKWY Tavern (Tivoli Village) - 3-6 pm
Don’t really need (or want) football with your Happy Hour? Find your perfect spot to chillax on our list of Monday Happy Hours.
Did You Know? ☀️
The Sun makes a sound loud enough to reach Earth.
But don't expect to hear it any time soon, unless you have superhuman hearing or can suddenly perceive wavelengths hundreds of miles long.
Scientists know that the Sun generates pressure waves, which are basically sound waves, but they are so low-pitched they make your deepest bass drop sound like a kazoo in comparison. And, though those waves are strong (i.e. LOUD), since they are far outside the range of human hearing, they're completely inaudible to us.
But even if you could hear the frequency of the sun's noise, you'd need something other than the vacuum of space to carry it, since sound can't travel through a vacuum. Basically, space is one giant cosmic mute button, a fact for which we should be extremely grateful. If we could hear the Sun's roar, scientists estimate it would be around 110 decibels here on Earth. That's about as loud as standing next to the speakers at a rock concert or a chainsaw in action. And it would be continuous. That's right, living on Earth would be like having front-row seats to the universe's loudest show, 24/7. Try sleeping through that.
Lucky for us, space keeps the sun's incessant serenade at bay, so we can enjoy the benefits of the great orb in the sky without having to listen to it. And if we did have to listen to it, it's highly likely our hearing would have evolved differently. We might all have the auditory range of a rock band roadie.
AROUND THE VALLEY 📍
Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -
Just Tell Me When It’s Over 🏎️
If you’re super stoked for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, you’ll be excited to know that the ins and outs of the event are coming together. Construction has started near The Strip, the event is being streamlined (i.e. organizers realized a lot of stuff went really wrong last year), and headliners are being announced.
There’s even going to be an ice rink on top of the Paddock Club, which you too can access for the low, low starting price of just under $15,000… per person. Anyway, it all sounds very streamlined and necessary, and please let me know when the barricades and ugly bleachers come down sometime around March, I’m guessing.
Free Illusions for Teachers 🧑🏽🏫
Are you a teacher who likes to be mystified? If so, you can get your mind blown for free at the Museum of Illusions for the rest of the year. The Museum of Illusions is showing their Teacher Appreciation by granting educators free admission daily through December 31st with their school ID. But if you want to take advantage of the offer, you’ll have to wing it. The offer is good for walk-in visits only.
