Why We Love Losing Money

How does a company start from nothing, grow and thrive for 45 years, and sell items for less than they cost?

Only by building long term relationships. That means innovating, executing, and taking care of every customer like they are the most important person in the world.

But even more than that, it means caring. Caring about customers, caring about employees, caring about quality, and caring about doing the right thing.

Let Queensboro show you the secret of their 45-year success. Let them do what they love and put your logo on a custom-embroidered polo or hat for just $4.95, including logo setup and embroidery.

Welcome to your new partner for custom logo apparel & promotional products. Trust the Queen for just $4.95.

TODAY’S HAPPY HOURS & EATS (Featuring Cheese Pizza) 🍕

(Yes, I realize that is not a cheese pizza emoji. They don’t have one. For shame.)

As Kevin McCallister can surely attest, sometimes nothing hits the spot quite like “a lovely cheese pizza just for me.” ← Home Alone reference

Well, if you’re gonna do it, today’s the day. Cheese Pizza Day, to be exact. And while there are loads of places doing pizza deals today to celebrate the occasion, you’ll find few of them around these parts. But you will find one. Papa Murphy’s. And they’re not even sticking to cheese pizza. You can get 30% off your entire regular priced order today for takeout or delivery with code FOOTBALL24.

But if you prefer your pizza with a discount drink, here are the places that serve it up on their Happy Hour menus -

Did You Know? 🪴

Succulents survive so well in difficult conditions because they've got a unique trick up their leaves. Literally. They have cleverly-evolved leaves that work like little rain gutters.

When it rains on a succulent (or the succulent gets watered), the water runs down its chute-like leaves toward the center of the plant toward its roots, where it can store water for long dry periods. This is how succulents thrive in harsh, dry environments where other plants might throw in the towel. Once the water reaches its roots, it distributes throughout the plant. Those fleshy leaves that feel so cool to the touch aren't just for oohing and ahhing over - they're individual water storage units, always at the ready to get a succulent through the next drought like a cactus version of a camel.

This ability to store water is especially crucial in the arid environments succulents typically come from. With their built-in storage systems, they don't need water frequently. They just need enough water to save up for a sunny day.

In fact, overwatering is one of the worst things you can do for a succulent, which really don't need a whole lot of help. These super-survivors can turn the smallest raindrop, or even the air on a particularly humid day, into survival fuel. Basically, they're pros at water management.

So, next time you forget to water your succulent for weeks (or months), don’t panic. Succulents are like zen masters of the plant world - go with the flow, take what they need, and store the rest for later. Just don’t overdo it with the watering can when you do remember, or your little desert warriors might end up swimming in their own success.

AROUND THE VALLEY 🏺

Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -

Like Pottery? 🏺

If you love all things clay and decorative you might want to make your way to Charleston Heights Arts Center (800 S Brush St) and their Functional Can Be Fun Exhibit tonight. The free exhibit and reception by Clay Arts Vegas is exactly what it sounds like. It’s all about cool art pieces that are also functional. Think bowls, pitchers, and goblets that’ll make you look like you’re queen of the castle in the middle ages.

As someone who grew up in a small pottery town where the population doubled during the annual Pottery Festival, I know you pottery aficionados are out there.

Permanent Pups 🐶

Yesterday, we talked about The Animal Foundation's urgent need for foster homes for larger pups. Well, today it's all about making things more permanent. There are a few days left in The Animal Foundation's Clear the Shelters campaign. Through September 10th, adoption fees are waived for animals six months and older.

But tomorrow (Friday, September 6) and Saturday (September 7), The Animal Foundation is waiving adoption fees for ALL animals in their shelter, including puppies and kittens. So, if you've been waiting to adopt a furry four-legger, maybe the wait is over.
