TODAYā€™S WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH

Happy Tuesday Afternoon, Neighbor!

Looking forward to the winter holidays? If so, thereā€™s some pre-planning you can do. Flex tickets for Enchant at Las Vegas Ballpark are on sale now at early bird pricing. If youā€™ve never been, when we went a couple of years ago, our entry was delayed due to rain, so when we finally got in, it was way too crowded, but the lights were pretty.

In more immediate news, if you were planning to walk into a DMV tomorrow to take care of some motor vehicle business, youā€™re going to have to make an appointment. The DMV is suspending Walk-In Wednesdays at many locations due to the heat. And you know when the DMV is trying to make you more comfortable, things have gotten real.

In today's Summerlin City Wind Down:

Itā€™s Taco Tuesday, and you know what that means. Todayā€™s restaurant specials are heavy on the tacos. Wellā€¦ thereā€™s a fair amount of tequila involved too.

But if tacos and tequila arenā€™t your thing, you can also get Ā½ off wine tonight at a few different spots.

Did You Know? āļø

Starfish donā€™t have bodies. Scientifically speaking, that is.

While these curious ocean crawlers might look majorly leggy, starfish, or sea stars, donā€™t actually have legs at all. Or arms. And that middle bit? It ainā€™t no torso.

So, just what the heck is it then?

Well, letā€™s start on the inside, where starfish donā€™t have central brains. Their nervous systems are spread throughout their entire structures, turning their ā€œarmsā€ into five mini-brains that can think independently of each other, and even regenerate lost limbs.

Wicked, right?

While the central area of a starfish does house its vital organs, calling it a "body" would be a bit of a stretch. And scientists donā€™t call it that.

What do they call it?

A head.

Thatā€™s right. Scientifically speaking, a starfish is one big, bodiless head. That can regenerate itself. And, in some species, clone itself.

Maybe itā€™s not AI we need to worry about taking over the world.

AROUND THE VALLEYšŸ“

Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -

Home Means Nevada šŸš™

Since weā€™ve already mentioned the DMV, letā€™s talk license plates. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, nearly 2 million of the 3 million registered vehicles in Nevada carry the standard ā€œHome Means Nevadaā€ license plate.

Of the special plates offered by the DMV, the most popular is the Las Vegas Commemorative plate with the picture of the ā€œWelcome to Fabulous Las Vegasā€ sign.

Iā€™m a standard plate person myself, but if I were to get a special plate, it would probably be the ā€œSupport Wildlifeā€ one because bighorns are my jam. But I also think the ā€œChildren in the Artsā€ and ā€œOpportunity Villageā€ plates are super nice to put my eyeballs on.

UNLV Kickoff šŸˆ

If youā€™re jonesing to get some UNLV Rebelsā€™ football back in your life, you now have a date to mark with a scarlet heart on your calendar. The Rebelsā€™ home opener against Utah Tech has been scheduled for September 7 at noon.
