TODAY’S WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH

Happy Tuesday Afternoon, Neighbor!

Remember last week when we talked about those new homes that are coming to Summerlin? 🏠 Well, hope you're an early-riser, because things are about to get louder earlier when it comes to home construction. The city council approved a 5 a.m. start time for some construction projects from the months of April through September. That’s right, 5 a.m. Now, I’m all about protecting outside workers (I honestly don’t know how they do it here), but I’m also all about sleep.

The good news is the earlier start time only applies to still-in-construction HOA communities, and, while that’s better than it applying to construction across the board, we all know the noise from one community doesn’t always stay in that community. So, you may want to invest in some earplugs or learn to greet sunrise with a smile. 🌞

TODAY’S HAPPY HOURS & EATS 🌮

Today is Picnic Table Day, which feels very simpatico back-to-back with National Hammock Day. Unfortunately, I can't recommend sitting outside until MUCH later this evening. But if you do want to sit outside, there are plenty of spots with outdoor seating on our Tuesday Happy Hours list.

As far as specials go, Tuesdays tend toward tacos. So, here are some places you can get them at a discount tonight.

Did You Know? ⭐️

Not all starfish have five arms. And it's isn’t because they lost (or gained) them in battle.

When you think of starfish, you likely picture them with their classic five-arm design. And why wouldn’t you? They’re called starfish or sea stars, and our classic star shape is five-pronged. But while five-armed starfish are the most common, some species of starfish sport less or more arms. Many, many more arms. In fact, the number of arms in starfish vary from four to as many as 50. 50! As in 6.25 times the number of arms on an octopus.

The reason different starfish have different numbers of arms is because they’ve evolved to fit their unique lifestyles and environments. Some starfish have more arms to help them navigate complex coral reefs, to escape predators, or to capture more food. Starfish with fewer arms make up for it with other survival skills, like the ability to regenerate lost limbs.

Basically, in the world of starfish, it's all about playing the hand… er, the arms… you're dealt. Whether flaunting a modest set of four or an extravagant assemblage of fifty, these sea creatures prove there's no right way to be a star.

AROUND THE VALLEY📍

Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -

CCSD Cracks Down on Cell Phones📵

Got a kid who can’t stay off their phone? Well, they’re about to get a lesson in willpower. At school, at least.

Clark County School District has a new policy for the 2024-25 school year requiring kids in grades 6 through 12 to place their cell phones in signal-blocking pouches. The pouches are unlocked, so phones will be available in the event of an emergency, but pilot programs have shown they should be much less of a distraction for students.

Going Down in a Blaze of Fines 🔥

Oh, Blaze Pizza. What on earth were you thinking? Well, one Blaze franchisee, I should say.

Las Vegas-based Blaze owner Bryz Guyz Inc. has been hit with some hefty fines for violating child labor laws. Violations include working 15-year-olds over the permitted amount of time per day and outside of legal working hours, and tasking 15 to 17-year-olds with operating industrial mixers, which is, apparently, a big no-no.
