TODAY’S WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH
Happy Tuesday Afternoon, Neighbor!
It’s finally here! (Even if it doesn’t quite feel like it.) We’ve been in spooky season for a minute - at least, in my mind - but we are finally officially in spooky month.
We’re also going big into festival and special event season here in the Valley with lots of great stuff on the horizon.
But, first up, if you are in the cavity-giving spirit, or just have a ton of extra candy around the house still packaged up, the LVMPD Foundation has set up a Halloween Candy Drive at Lexicon Bank in Tivoli Village through October 18th.
In today's Summerlin City Wind Down:

TODAY’S HAPPY HOURS & EATS ☕️🍻
It’s National Coffee Day, arguably one of the most important days of the year. That means we’re going back to Makers & Finders, where we really appreciate their coffee-inclusive Happy Hour offerings.
Also, it’s the first day of the month, which means locals first at Slater’s 50/50.

Did You Know? 💰
The richest person in history outstripped today’s richest people by nearly double.
The dude’s name was Mansa Musa, and he was so generous with his riches, he accidentally toppled Egypt’s economy.
While modern billionaires are battling for spots on the "world's richest" lists, and hitting the “$200 Billion Club,” Mansa Musa was dominating the wealth game centuries ago - and doing it in total boss style.
A 14th-century emperor of Mali, Musa holds the crown for being the wealthiest person in history. Ruling from 1312 to 1337, he amassed his incredible fortune largely thanks to Mali's vast reserves of gold, salt, and spices. During Musa’s reign, Mali was one of the richest empires in the world, and Musa controlled much of the gold trade at a time when West Africa was producing over half of the world's supply. While historians estimate his wealth would be worth around $400 billion today, they have no way of knowing just how much Musa actually accumulated. But they do know Musa wasn’t stingy with it.
The emperor’s greatest claim to fame came in the form of an extravagant pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324, where he traveled with a caravan of 60,000 people, including soldiers, slaves, and courtiers, as well as camels and horses loaded with -- you guessed it - loads of gold. Rumor has it, Musa handed out so much of the shiny stuff in Cairo that he caused a decade-long economic crisis in Egypt because the influx of gold devalued the currency.
Imagine being so rich you accidentally crash an entire country's economy.
But if you’re thinking, “Wow, a rich guy known for being rich,” you should know Musa’s legacy extends well beyond his hordes of gold. Along with generously toppling the Egyptian economy, he was a patron of education and culture. His extensive spending helped turn Timbuktu into a center of learning, attracting scholars from all over the world. Even today, his riches and impact on West Africa are the stuff of legend.
So, while billionaires today are busy battling over space travel and super yachts, Mansa Musa was busy reshaping the landscape and mindset of an entire continent.
