Did You Know? 🤨

We radiate light.

That’s right, you, yes, you, dear reader, are a glowing beacon of photonic fabulousness - just like a firefly or a bioluminescent jellyfish. Okay, maybe not “just” like them (we’re not all out there glowing in the dark), but the truth is, your body, and mine, and all other humans, emit visible light. We can’t see it, but scientists have proven it.

It’s not just us. Every living thing emits a small amount of light due to the chemical reactions that keep us alive. In humans, it happens when metabolic processes produce free radicals (little unstable molecules that you might remember from every skincare commercial ever). These radicals react with lipids and proteins in your cells, creating excited molecules that release photons - aka light - as they calm down. This is called ultra-weak photon emission (UPE), which sounds like something out of a Marvel movie but is just your body's way of whispering, very, very, softly, "Hey, I'm alive and I’m thriving!"

Unfortunately, we don’t get to enjoy this super cool corporeal trick. The light we emit is about 1,000 times weaker than the human eye can detect. So, you won't be outshining your LED ring light anytime soon. But sensitive cameras can capture it, and in 2009, Japanese researchers did just that. They found that our glow fluctuates throughout the day, peaking in the afternoon (when our metabolic activity is in full swing) and dimming at night.

But what part of you glows the most? Your face. Probably because it's packed with more energy-hungry cells than other parts of your body.

But wait, there's more! This glow isn't just a fun biological quirk - it might actually have medical significance. Some researchers believe changes in our bioluminescence could signal shifts in our health. Things like stress, illness, or fatigue might make us dimmer, while optimal health could make us shine. Basically, we're walking mood rings, and our light… or lack of it… may hold clues about what's happening under our skin.

So, if you've ever been told you have a certain "glow" about you, science backs it up. So, you go ahead and call yourself radiant. Literally.

SPECIAL ARTWORK THAT GIVES BACK

Transform your love into art with our personalized trees. Our custom artwork is perfect for weddings, anniversaries, engagements & more. But that’s not all! With each piece sold, we donate a portion of the proceeds to plant trees. So, your purchase doesn't just celebrate love, it gives back, contributing to the regrowth and preservation of our forests.

Around the Valley 💨📱

Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -

Wind, Wind Everywhere! 💨

Have you seen those wind predictions? Gusts up to 60 mph? Come on now!

The wind warning lasts through 4 pm tomorrow. So, if you are feeling a Happy Hour or like getting out of the house, and it doesn’t have to be tonight, might I suggest waiting it out? Unless, of course, you enjoy a nice blast of sand to the face.

CES Kicks Off Today 📱

Lover of new technology? You’ll be happy to know the Consumer Electronics Show lands at the LV Convention Center today. Or maybe not, since it’s not open to the public.

However, along with the main event, The Venetian is displaying tech from more than 1,400 start-up companies.

So, if tech is your whole bag, and you’re not a tech insider, The Strip beckons you.
