TODAY’S WIND DOWN PRESENTED BY
Happy Tuesday Afternoon, Neighbor!
Another week into December. How’re those holiday preparations going? Is it the most wonderful time of the year, or the most stressful time of the year? I’m still not sure myself. But I can tell you a hot toddy and a warm and fuzzy Christmas movie can go a long way toward easing those holiday crazies.
In today's 702 West City Wind Down:

TODAY’S HAPPY HOURS & EATS 🍹
We’re too close to the holidays for loads of restaurant specials… apparently. But there are a couple of places you can get fresh new drink options if you’re feeling frisky.
First up, at Lucille’s Smokehouse, the Big Easy Margarita is back for $9 for a limited time (through December 22). They also have a seasonal dessert right now - Christmas Cookie Pudding - which sounds seriously indulgent and would probably be pretty good paired with a whiskey drink during their Whiskey Wednesdays.
|
Next up, Chili’s Marg of the Month is seasonally-inspired. You can get The Merry Maker marg for $6 all of December.

Did You Know? ⛪️
Candy canes were invented in 1670 by a quick-thinking choirmaster at Cologne Cathedral in Germany.
At least, according to legend.
Faced with the Herculean task of keeping children quiet during the crèche scene (that's the nativity play for those of us who don't hang out in cathedrals), this choirmaster had a stroke of pure genius: sugar.
But not just any sugar. He supposedly commissioned a local confectioner to create sweet sticks of hard candy, bent at the top to resemble a shepherd's crook - because nothing says "stop fidgeting" like a sticky symbol of piety. (The original sticks were also reportedly plain white. The red stripes didn't appear until much later, likely in the 19th century.)
The kids loved them, of course. The sweet treats kept their mouths busy and their hands sticky, and the choirmaster likely breathed a sigh of relief as the nativity scene unfolded without a single kid yelling, "When's it gonna be over?"
Fast forward a few centuries, and the candy cane has evolved into the mysterious holiday staple we know today.
Why mysterious? Well, some stories claim those red strips symbolize Christ's blood and the white his purity. Others say it's just a splash of festive flair and clever marketing. Either way, the candy cane was firmly embraced as a Christmas tradition, hanging from trees, the symbol of edible décor, and continues its noble mission of keeping children silent during holiday services around the world.

Around the Valley 🏎️🥶
Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -
The LVMPD Wants You! 🏎️
To help them out. Specifically with any pictures or video of street takeovers/street racing you see.
I know this isn’t happy news, and I usually try to stick to joyful things here, but I’m mentioning this because I definitely know some street racing was going on in our neck of the woods Sunday night… right about 11 pm. And it was annoying as I was trying to drift off into peaceful dreams.
So, you know, if you see ‘em, get ‘em.
Were You Chilly This Morning? 🥶
If so, there was good reason. Winter is officially back on. This morning’s low temp of 36° F at the airport is the coldest it’s been since February. So, get those warm blankies out.
