TODAYâS WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH
Happy Monday Afternoon, Neighbor!
Itâs a very important day. Itâs National Toilet Paper Day, a day to celebrate the invention of TP. 𧻠And I think we can all agree, it was a pretty good one.
Iâm a bit of a toilet paper snob myself. I find that most toilet paper at public places is a bit lacking. Lacking in thickness. Lacking in softness. Just bad. You can stay at a five-star hotel, and they still give you crappy toilet paper. (No pun intended.)
Also, a huge THANK YOU to our newest members. We appreciate the heck out of you. If youâd like to join up and support your local team, you have a few days left to put your name in the running for our AUGUST GIFT CARD GIVEAWAY. This monthâs gift card is to Hussongâs Cantina. Youâll also get our September Preview, which hits inboxes later this week!

Did You Know? đ
Oxygen may be the most essential element when it comes to sustaining life on earth, but gravity is hugely influential in the way flora and fauna evolve.
Just how important is it? Well, if Earth doubled its gravity, all trees would fall over and animals (and humans) dog-sized and up wouldn't be able to run without breaking their legs.
Thatâs right, if the gravity on earth suddenly doubled, things would get weird fast. And thatâs because plants and animals have evolved under Earth's current gravitational pull. Every plant, animal, and human is designed to function optimally within that specific force. Trees, for instance, are structurally adapted to withstand the force of gravity while growing tall and strong. Double that force, and the trunks trees currently have wouldn't be able to hold the extra weight, so they would collapse under their own mass.
In the same way, our bones and muscles have evolved to handle the stress of walking, running, and jumping with the current level of gravity. If that gravity doubled, those same bones and muscles would be under twice the amount of pressure. Every move would land with twice the impact. Even taking a single step would require far more effort, because it would be like having the weight of two of you inside your own body.
While birds might actually fare better in a double-gravity world (assuming the atmosphere also doubled in size), at least when it comes to flying, they would have a lot of trouble landing. It would require landing on water or a very soft surface to keep those tiny legs from snapping like twigs.
The good news is that while it's technically possible for Earth's gravity to double, it would require the planet doubling its mass. It would take a whole lot of space junk - asteroids, space debris, or an entire planet crashing into us to do the damage. Not likely, so no need to start panic-planning for gravitational doom.
AROUND THE VALLEY đ
Here are some things Around the Valley we think might be of interest -
Forget That 2024 Rebate đČ
Hoping to take advantage of Nevada Energyâs rebate for installing energy-efficient heating and cooling systems? Well, it wonât be this year.
Due to demand (you know, because itâs been 18 million degrees all summer), the programâs funding is tapped out. So, you know, hereâs hoping things cool off quickly, and we have a nice, mild winter.
Casino Bosses Make Bank đ°
Have you ever wondered just how much money youâd make if youâd followed a casino career path all the way to the top? Well, wonder no more. According to public data, the answer is a mint.
The top casino boss in Las Vegas - Las Vegas Sands Corp CEO Robert Goldstein - banked nearly $22 million dollars in 2023, while runner-up Thomas Reeg, CEO of Caesars Entertainment, took home almost $19 million.
And even Off-Strip with fewer casinos, these guys arenât doing too bad. The CEO of Summerlinâs own Red Rock Resorts, Frank Fertitta III, came away with $3.5 million.
Iâm starting to think that I might have chosen the wrong careerâŠ
