TODAYâS WIND DOWN BROUGHT TO YOU WITH
Happy Thursday Afternoon, Neighbor!
Today is Happiness Happens Day, which was started by the Society of Happy People (which, letâs be honest, sounds like a cult) as âAdmit Youâre Happy Dayâ 25 years ago today. Personally, I like this new variation better. âAdmit Youâre Happy Dayâ sounds like a twelve-step program, while Happiness Happens Day sounds like youâre taken by surprise, like, âWhoa, Iâm happy.â So, pay attention to those âWhoa, Iâm happyâ moments today. đ
Itâs also International Cat Day, which seems like a good companion to Happiness Happen Day. Except for when cats act like jerks. âCause sometimes they do.

TODAYâS HAPPY HOURS & EATS đ
Iâve eaten with a lot of cats, and, as far as I can tell, most cats are quite content to steal most foods. But, in honor of International Cat Day, weâre gonna talk about one specific cat - a cat called Romeo. The name has not been changed.
Now, Romeo is less than a year old and he likes to eat. He steals everything he can from everywhere he can, from bacon off the table to fully-made salads off the kitchen counter. But his favorite food is bread. He has eaten through bags more than once to get at it. đŒ (And I GET it.)
he looks so innocent!
So, today, Iâm highlighting a few foods I think Romeo would tear up at Happy Hour.
First up, at Carrabbaâs Italian Grill, theyâve got a Charcuterie Board on their Happy Hour menu with meats and bread that this tiny cat would rip through like Godzilla on a bender.
Then, over at Echo & Rig, they only have a three-item Happy Hour food menu, but Romeo would decimate EVERY. ONE. OF. THEM. I think he would down that Hot Dog in one bite.
After that feast, he would probably pop into every Happy Hour with meatballs or anything bacon on the menu, and clean them out. But heâd definitely end up at Flemingâs, where they always offer bread, and gorge himself into a carb coma.
So, if you want to follow Romeoâs likely trail of destruction, here are some Happy Hours to hit up tonight -
Carrabbaâs Italian Grill (Boca Park Area) - Cat-Approved Charcuterie
Echo & Rig (Tivoli Village) - Fully Cat-Approved
Al Solito Posto (Tivoli Village) - Nonnaâs Meatballs
Cheesecake Factory (Boca Park) - Housemade Meatballs
Frankieâs Uptown (Downtown Summerlin) - A Couple of Meatballs (Romeo would order more)
Grape Street Café (Downtown Summerlin) - Meatballs
Kona Grill (Boca Park) - Ribeye Meatballs
North Italia (Boca Park Area) - Italian Meatballs (and More Meat Boards)
Osteria Fiorella (Red Rock Resort) - Salâs Meatballs
True Food Kitchen (Downtown Summerlin) - Turkey Meatballs
Flemingâs Steakhouse (Boca Park Area) - House Bread (But Also Meatballs)
Not a cat? Check out people-approved options on our Thursday Happy Hours page.
Did You Know? đ
Flowers are so important to, and so much a part of, the Olympic Games that a new flower - the Olympic Dahlia - was bred just for these Olympics.
While every Olympian may be striving for a medal, flowers have also always held significant meaning in the Olympics, far beyond their decorative appeal. Historically, bouquets presented to medalists have been carefully crafted, with each flower chosen for its symbolic value - representing ideas such as victory, joy, and the fleeting nature of triumph.
During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, athletes received bouquets featuring roses, lilies, and orchids. The roses symbolized friendship, the lilies represented purity, and the orchids stood for elegance.
In the 2016 Rio Olympics, the bouquets included the vibrant and native Brazilian flower, the bromeliad, alongside sunflowers and baby's breath. The bromeliad symbolized resilience and determination, sunflowers were a nod to the sun and the joy of competition, and baby's breath represented everlasting love and purity.
While France has forgone the traditional bouquet in these Summer Games (opting instead to give medalists a gold-boxed poster), they have still lendt to the Olympics floral tradition by creating a botanical masterpiece. Enter the Olympic Dahlia, a vibrant bloom bred specifically for this global event. This flower isn't just about aesthetics; it showcases a dazzling array of colors, each petal representing different virtues celebrated in the games. The creation of this flower was no small feat -- French horticulturists spent years perfecting it to ensure it would stand out on the world stage, much like the athletes themselves.
And while there may be no bouquets of Olympic dahlias to goggle at on the podium, 50,000 of these flowers have been planted throughout Paris for the games, a stunning tribute to the way the Olympics take over a city and leave an indelible mark on its landscape.
AROUND THE VALLEY (AND FRANCE) đș
Here are some things Around the Valley (and the Olympics!) we think might be of interest -
Colin Jost Survived Tahiti
I donât know if you all know about whatâs been going on with Colin Jost in Tahiti, but letâs just say he was having both the best and the worst time. But mostly the worst. Since Jost arrived on the island, heâs basically been an injury and infection magnet and whether or not heâd survive his correspondence gig was really up in the air.
Well, if youâre a fan, youâll be happy to know that Jost has now left Tahiti and returned home, a little worse for the wear, but largely in one piece.
Rain in the Forecast?
Well, itâs another dusty, excessively hot day here in the Valley. But there is the potential for a little rain later this afternoon (a slight potential, but still), so hopefully the dust will get cleared out of here soon.
Meanwhile, on the East Coast, a whole lot of places are underwater from Tropical Storm Debby, so it could be a whole lot worse.
